“To the Staff at River Region Hospice: where do I begin, my mother’s six weeks at the hospice house were so comfortable, more than anything she felt at home thanks to the staff at River Region Hospice. When she took sick at East Jefferson and they first suggested hospice, I made arrangements for my mother to be transferred to [another inpatient hospice facility]. After being at [another inpatient hospice facility] for only 25 minutes, we decided to transfer to River Region Hospice. Once we got by you all, it was midnight. The nurses were so good to her that first night. I knew that she would be happy there. I can’t make myself think of her last weeks spent at another place. My mom loved everyone at River Region Hospice. Spending the night with her on one of my nights there she asked me to go to the desk and get whoever was there to come to her room. She told them she loved them all and indeed she did. The cook fixed her anything she wanted. She loved every minute of it . The social worker always stuck his head in to see if she needed anything and to tell her good morning each day. She always felt special. The medical director and my mother connected from the start. She enjoyed his visits and kindness more than her regular doctors. She knew who was there every day and she called them by name. I cannot express my thanks by words. The team of River Region Hospice was perfect for my mother. You all knew the perfect thing to make my mother and family’s stay there special. Your kindness and care meant the world to her and me. The thoughtfulness of the team of workers showed in everything you did to make her comfortable in the last months.
