About Us

Founded in 2000, River Region Hospice is a family-owned and operated hospice agency serving Orleans, Jefferson, St. Bernard, St. John, St. Charles, and St. James Parishes. In addition to providing care in the home, River Region Hospice offers inpatient hospice services at our state-of-the-art hospice house located in River Ridge.

The River Region Hospice House opened in March 2005 and is the first free-standing hospice house in the state of Louisiana. Other hospice agencies desiring to open an inpatient hospice facility often visit our hospice house for guidance and information. Inpatient referrals are accepted from anywhere in the United States. Our agency is Medicare-certified and operates in accordance with all state regulations and federal conditions of participation that govern the provision of hospice care.

It is the goal of River Region Hospice to provide high quality, compassionate end-of-life care to patients and their families. The Hospice Team consists of physicians, nurses, social workers, chaplains, nursing assistants, psychotherapists, pharmacists, dieticians, volunteers, and may include, physical, occupational, and speech therapists. This team of highly-trained professionals understand and are trained and experienced in assisting patients and their families with the difficulties and grief associated with the stages of a life-limiting illness. Care is individualized for each patient and family. The services are centered upon the assessed and changing needs of the patient and family. After hours and on weekends and holidays, a Registered Nurse is on call to respond to patients’ and families’ needs, whether the need is an answer to a simple question or on-site intervention for a medical crisis.

Benefits of Hospice include, not only the care provided by the hospice team, but also the provision of medications related to the terminal diagnosis, comfort medications (e.g., pain, nausea, breathing difficulty, depression, insomnia medications), and medical equipment (e.g., oxygen, hospital beds, bedside commodes, wheelchairs, etc.) to promote comfort and safety in the home or the hospice house. Whether the patient receives treatment in the home or hospice house, our treatment approach focuses on compassion, dignity, respect, understanding, and a heartfelt desire to “be there” when we are most needed.
