The Volunteer Program

Relying heavily on volunteers, River Region Hospice offers extensive training adequately preparing our volunteers to meet the needs of hospice recipients. Consider offering your time to make a difference in someone’s life. Our flexible program allows volunteers to work in their areas of interest whether it’s visiting lonely patients or helping out in the office. Applicants meet with our Volunteer Coordinator to match their special skills with River Region Hospice’s one-of-a-kind needs. To become a volunteer, complete the Application Form.

What does a hospice volunteer do?

Visit patients and their families in the home or in the Hospice House
Sit with the patient while the caregiver is away a few hours
Shopping or running errands for the patient or caregiver
Assist with administrative tasks
Assist with special events such as Our Annual Interfaith Memorial Service

Steps to Becoming a River Region Hospice Volunteer

Complete an Application Form
Have a one-on-one interview with our Volunteer Coordinator
Provide three personal references
Consent to a criminal background check (We’ll cover the cost)
Complete a drug screening
Submit an up-to-date TB Skin Test
Provide picture ID and proof of car insurance, if applicable
Complete the River Region Hospice Volunteer Training Program

Teen Volunteers

Teen volunteers are welcome, but must be a minimum of 14 years old or be in High School. Teen volunteer applicants must have at least one reference letter from a teacher or guidance counselor. And, of course, applicants under 18 must have parental consent to volunteer. Services a teen volunteer can provide:

Companionship to patients at the Hospice House
Assist with administrative tasks
Assistance with special events and activities
